Internship Frequently Asked Questions
Can I email or fax my application materials?
No, they must be sent to the Corcoran’s mailing address.
Do you only offer full-time internships?
The summer program is a ten week full-time program. Fall and spring internship opportunities allow interns to be in the office full-time or part-time.
Can I apply for a full-year internship?
All of our internships run on a semester schedule, however there are sometimes exceptions. If you are available to intern for a year, please make this clear in your application.
Is there a winter internship?
No. We cannot provide short-term winter intern experiences – please see our volunteer website if interested in being involved in a volunteer capacity with our institution.
Are high school students eligible to apply?
No. We do not have an internship program for high school students at this time.
Can I defer my acceptance to the internship program?
No. Because internship projects vary and change with each semester, it is not guaranteed that this candidate will still be most qualified for the next placement.
Is housing provided for interns?
No. Information regarding Washington DC intern housing can be sent to you, but the Corcoran cannot arrange intern housing.
Is there an Orientation for each internship session?
Yes, and it is required before an individual can begin the internship.
What are the panel discussions?
Interns gather as a group to ask questions of Corcoran staff. This occurs weekly and is organized by department, so interns leave the internship with a greater sense of how the entire institution works.
Where do the interns go on weekly field trips?
The intern group visits local arts organizations (i.e. museums, galleries, auction houses, libraries, and embassies) and also meet with a member of the staff for a behind-the-scenes experience.
Is the cost of transportation covered for weekly trips?
No. Most of the field trips are within walking distance and each trip is located within the District.
Are there any special requirements for those working with children in Camp Creativity or other student programs?
Yes. You are required to have a background check and updated vaccinations.
Can an intern receive academic credit for the internship?
Yes. This must be determined between the intern and their university. The supervisor or intern coordinator will then sign any necessary forms, and provide a short description of the internship.
