The 2010 Baker Artist Awards Seek Nominations

The 2010 Baker Artist Awards have begun. Once again, regional artists compete for two different prizes. The first award, the Mary Sawyers Baker Prize is to be decided by private jury, and up to three winners will be awarded up to $25,000 each. The second award, the Peoples’ Choice, will reward the five artists who receive the most votes from the public with $1,000 each.

Who is Eligible?
You must be an artist at least 21 years old and have been a legal resident of the Baltimore region since October 1, 2008. The Baltimore region is defined as: Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County and Howard County. The Baker Artist Awards are intended for individual artists and groups of artists working as a collective. Artists working in any discipline or multi- disciplines are eligible. Organizations and venues are not eligible. Winners of the Baker Artist Awards will be required to provide additional proof of age and residency beyond information requested through the online self-nomination process.

All Baltimore area artists who meet the eligibility criteria and working in any creative discipline are invited to register and compete. By utilizing the latest web technology, artist nominees represent themselves through video, audio, image and/or text. The online platform is designed to reach the broadest possible audience and invite their full participation. If you are an artist who participated in the 2009 awards and have not heard from the Baker Artist Awards write to for instructions on how to re-activate and update your nomination; including steps for retrieving your user name and password. Your 2009 nomination page is intact to be used as the foundation of your 2010 nomination. You are advised to prepare your new files and update your nomination to include your latest work. It is important that you reactivate your nomination promptly.

This year, Baker Artist Awards are looking to expand multi-disciplinary entries and encouraging nominations in disciplines underrepresented on last years’ site. They have also added a “share” feature and a blog to the site, enhancements that make the website more dynamic and user friendly.

Who is Eligle to Vote?
While anyone can view the site without signing in, the public is invited to participate in depth by registering as a viewer/voters. Voters must be eighteen years of age. There is no residency requirements. As a viewer/voter individuals have the right to vote, to comment on work, to send the blog questions and to pick up to six favorite artists to be on display under their user name.

The 2010 nominating period will run through January 15, 2010 at 5 pm, the voting period will end on February 15, 2010 at 5 pm. The winners will be announced in March 2010.
