Corcoran Alumna presents her first solo show

August 10, 2009

Vivid Solutions DC presents a solo exhibition of works by Corcoran alumna Chandi Kelley. Timelines, her exhibition inspired by the theme of memory and mystery, is constructed of bookends, antique books, and wallpapers reminiscent of vintage patterns. Through methodical photography, the spines of the books function as a narrative reading from left to right, with text and image combining in a striking, evocative collection. The artist feels the unknown is what strengthens the work and allows the viewer to fill in the blanks and allow their personal narratives to intertwine with the stories told in the photographs. Kelley graduated with a BFA in photography from the Corcoran College of Art + Design in 2004. The opening reception for Timelines is scheduled for July 24 at 7 p.m., and the exhibition will run through September 8.
