Artist talk:Saturday February 11, 2012 2-3pm

In Rachel England's most recent collage work, she cuts away the flesh or other physical identifiers from the subject, replacing them with temples and ruins to suggest an interplay between soul and flesh and posture and fallibility of personal identity. In her paintings, she continues to explore posture and the impermanence of the flesh, but this time she concentrates on the interplay between foreground and background. By removing the substance or depth from the appropriated work and layering geometric shapes and lines, she hopes the viewer will implement their own imagined essence and depth into the figure or landscape she has created.
