Alumni, students, and staff honored with UCDA Design Awards

The University and College Designers Association’s (UCDA) 38th annual design competition recently honored the Corcoran with four awards of excellence for the Chance Encounters exhibition catalogue, Annie Leibovitz Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts certificate, exhibition graphics for the 2008 All-Senior Exhibition, and exhibition graphics for Modernism: Designing a New World 1914–1939. Corcoran College of Art + Design alumnus and current staff member Maria Habib (BFA 2002) played a particularly important role in the design and production of collateral for the Modernism exhibition.

Esther Hidalgo (Class of 2004) received an Honorable Mention award for En Foco's New Works Photography Awards #11, juried by Aperture's Editor-in-Chief Melissa Harris. The selected work was exhibited at El Taller Boricua Gallery in New York City.

Corcoran Alumnus Hits the Director’s Chair in New York

Corcoran alumnus Arash Mokhtar will direct several scenes from the play, Hurly Burly, written by David Rabe. An Academic Workshop Presentation, Hurly Burly will be shown on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7 p.m. from July 20 to 21 and July 27 to 28 at the 45th Street Theatre, 354 West Forty-fifth Street, New York, NY. Corcoran Alumnus Tara Donovan Named MacArthur Fellow

The Corcoran College of Art + Design is thrilled to announce that BFA alumnus Tara Donovan (1991) was named as one of the prestigious 2008 MacArthur Fellows. According to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, the $500,000 grant is awarded annually to experts in a variety of fields who demonstrate “exceptional originality and dedication to their creative pursuits.”

Donavan, who practices contemporary sculpture in Brooklyn, NY, is known for transforming ordinary, accumulated materials into intriguing visual and physical installations.
