The Corcoran College of Art + Design is pleased to present Camp Creativity 2008, a program of hands-on art classes for ages 5–13 (plus Studio D for ages 14–16) from June 16 to August 8. In this series of weeklong workshops, campers explore traditional subjects such as painting, drawing, and sculpture, as well as non-traditional processes such as cartooning, mixed media, and claymation. The schedule for each age group (or “studio”) includes a variety of age-appropriate thematic classes.

Camp Creativity classes are taught by professional, credentialed art teachers. Studio A sessions (ages 5–7) are keyed to the artistic traditions of countries, regions, and civilizations such as East Asia, Mexico, Ancient Greece, and India. Studio B sessions (ages 8–10) use branches of science such as physics, archeology, mathematics, and zoology as jumping-off points. Most Studio C sessions (ages 11–13) concentrate on skill development in genres such as portraiture and still life; some introduce campers to web design, fashion illustration, and other exciting fields. Inspired by the work of artists from different time periods and around the world, your child will find new avenues of self-expression and gain an understanding of his or her creative potential.

Within each weeklong segment of Camp Creativity, campers may enroll in the morning session, the afternoon session, or the full-day program. Morning sessions feature two related activities and afternoon sessions focus on one activity. The optional Pre-Camp period from 8 to 9 a.m. and Post-Camp period from 3 to 5:30 p.m. offer creative games and outdoor activities led by trained counselors. A nutritious snack is served during Post-Camp. Full-day campers have a supervised lunch period (lunch is not provided).

Studio A, B, and C classes take place at the Corcoran’s Georgetown Campus, 1801 35th Street NW (at S Street), which offers fully-equipped classrooms, an adjacent outdoor play area, and convenient access by car.
