offers camps for Studios C and D Ages 11-16
Camp Creativity’s Studio C and D for ages 11–16 meets at the Corcoran’s Downtown campus, providing campers with access to the studios and labs used by BFA students during the regular academic year. In addition, many sessions include study and sketching of works in the Corcoran Gallery of Art’s permanent collection and special exhibitions. Morning, afternoon, and full-day sessions are available. Lunch is not provided.

Week 1 June 23–27 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Darkroom Decoded A.M.
Unravel the mysteries of the darkroom! Go on guided photo shoots downtown and learn how to print your own black and white. NOTE: Students must bring a manual 35mm SLR camera.
Sculptural Concepts P.M.
Using clay as the main form of exploration, create three-dimensional works of art. Projects give students an understanding of basic concepts and develop creative approaches to problem-solving.
Week 2 June 30-July 4 (4 day week, no class on July 4) Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Magazine Launch A.M.
Studying top-selling magazines, campers learn elements of design, illustration, and typography. Next, each camper creates a “dummy” for a magazine geared to his or her interests.
Clay: Coil and Compress P.M.
Roll up your sleeves and experience clay. Explore techniques in working with clay and experience the process from idea formulation to final work and see the transformation as you create your original 3D pieces.
Week 3 July 7-11 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Pastel Painting A.M.
Explore the beauty of chalk and oil pastels along with the painterly effects that this exciting medium can create. Make colorful paintings and drawings from still life, landscape and portrait.
Transform your classroom doodles and rainy-day drawings into your own comic book. Campers learn conventions of cartooning, including storyboards, dialogue bubbles, and caricature.
Week 4 July 14-18 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
National Treasures Hunt A.M.
Search and unearth modern and contemporary treasures by artists that include Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and more. Follow in their footsteps and create works that emphasize some of their techniques.
Paley Palooza P.M.
Examine the works of Albert Paley in the galleries ranging from his lamps and jewelry to his animal sculptures. Learn about the process and transformation that occurs and create your own works inspired by his collection.
Week 5 July 22-25 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Fashion Illustration A.M.
Research styles of the past, observe current trends, and add personal flair to create a fashion line. Using pencil, watercolor, and colored ink, practice illustration techniques and start building your own portfolio of designs for clothing and accessories.
Figure Drawing P.M.
Study the basics of figure drawing with a clothed model. Learn to capture a human form in space and
enhance your drawing ability through gesture, contour, and value studies using a variety of materials.
Week 6 July 28-August 1 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Painting Explorations A.M.
Learn basic concepts of composition, brushworks, color palette and color mixing, shape/form, and shading. Apply these concepts to painterly projects that draw from both traditional and contemporary sources.
Jewelry Design P.M.
Create wearable art that represents your personality. Experiment with a range of materials and take inspiration from jewelry artists who use unexpected materials.
Week 7 August 4-8 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Digital Animation A.M.
Explore the art of animation, illustration and the creation of settings for the characters you imagine using Adobe Creative Suite. Develop characters, learn the concepts and techniques of animation, and watch your imagination come to life.
Glowing Darkroom P.M.
Using objects that glow in the dark, create unique, ghostlike photographic images. Explore the properties of light-sensitive paper and practice basic techniques of traditional black-and-white photo processing in the darkroom. NOTE: Students must bring a manual 35mm SLR camera.
Week 8 August 11–15 Downtown Studio C (Ages 11-13)
Kid Pan Alley FULL DAY ONLY. DOWNTOWN ONLY
The last week (August 11-16) of Camp Creativity 2014 is a weeklong songwriting workshop that combines creativity, music, and art. Campers work with Kid Pan Alley Songwriter Staff, who have written over 1,800 songs with over 30,000 children across the nation. Budding songwriters draw musical inspiration from the art in the Corcoran’s galleries. Theater and visual art teachers guide costume and stage design projects for the concert finale on Saturday, August 16th.
All classes for all ages are be held at the Downtown campus this week only. Space is limited
