Family & Alumni Weekend 2012

Friday, October 19

Students may invite their families to tour our campuses with them or attend a class on Friday, October 19 (prior permission from instructors is required).

Saturday, October 20

Community Day, 10 A.M. to 3 P.M.

Students, alumni, their family and friends are invited to join us for a day of community-inspired events at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design. The day begins with a private brunch for students, alumni, family, faculty, and staff at the Corcoran's Muse Cafe. Guests are then invited to enjoy a variety of events happening throughout the gallery and college, including a community art sale, art-making workshops, a student and alumni film festival, gallery tours, and live performances.

Family and Alumni Weekend Brunch

Todd Gray’s Muse Café at the Corcoran; 10 a.m.–12 p.m.

Students, alumni, and their family and friends are invited to join Corcoran staff and faculty for a delicious brunch featuring seasonal ingredients at the Corcoran’s Muse Café.

Featuring live music by the Harley String Band.

FREE for students and children under 12; $10 suggested donation for all other guests

Papermaking Demonstration (10:30 a.m. –11:30 a.m., Education Workshop, ground floor)

Ceramic Bowl Workshop benefiting So Others Might Eat (SOME) with wheel demonstrations every hour (All Day, Ceramics Studio, ground floor)

Pages at Play Bookmaking Workshop with book donation benefiting Books for America (All Day, Gallery 14, second floor)

Printmaking Workshop (Noon–3 p.m., Education Workshop, ground floor)

 

SHOP

Community Art Fair (All Day, North Atrium and Bridge, ground floor and second floor)

The Corcoran’s first annual Community Art Fair is a juried exhibition and sale of fine arts and crafts made by D.C.-area artists.

 

FILM

Film Festival (All Day, Gallery 21, second floor)

Featuring short films made by Corcoran College of Art + Design students and alumni.

 

MUSIC

Concerts on the Corner (All Day, corner of Seventeenth & New York Avenue)

Local musicians perform on the Corcoran’s outdoor sculpture platform. Organized by DC Setlist.

 

PERFORMANCE

Performance art presented by Corcoran College of Art + Design students (Noon–3 p.m., Atrium, first floor)

 

GALLERY

Art Meditation Tour (11 a.m., Rotunda, Second Floor)

Highlights Tour (12 p.m., Rotunda, Second Floor)

Artist Talk with Photographer Charlotte Dumas (2 p.m., Rotunda, Second Floor)

 

FOOD

A special menu prepared by Todd Gray’s Muse at the Corcoran (All Day, South Atrium, first floor)
