Project description: Gallery Assistants will work on projects that include but are not limited to:
Assisting the college exhibitions staff with the installation of exhibitions in Gallery 31, White Walls, White Halls, and other off-site venues.
Exhibition responsibilities include:
Assisting students installing artwork
Lighting
Labeling
De-installation
Cleaning and touch-ups
Maintaining the galleries and/or storage spaces:
Cleaning
Organizing
Patching and painting walls from holes or scratches
Touching up and organizing pedestals
Inventory of supplies
Other miscellaneous tasks, for example running errands and planning receptions
Students must be able to stand for long periods of time, use a hammer and a drill, understand and use a tape measure, lift up to 40 pounds, stand on a ladder/scaffolding for extended periods of time, and pay close attention to detail.
The Gallery Assistants will be mostly doing labor intensive work and should expect to do very little computer/administrative work. Students must be able to work on Monday and/or Tuesdays, as well as Sunday evenings, from 5 – 8 pm.
