Sensory Overload In Gallery31

Sensory Overload features artwork that integrates two or more of the five senses—touch, taste, sight, smell, and sound—into a single work or group of artworks. This all-media exhibition aims to arouse the spectator through works that address all characteristics of our physical awareness, and create an environment that explores the physiological methods of perception.

Persistence of Vision: The Illusion of Motion in the Age of Muybridge

July 14, 2010, 7 p.m.

When Eadweard Muybridge began experimenting with serial photography in the 1870s, moving pictures were child’s play. By the time he died in 1904, this phenomenon was well on its way to becoming a prominent global industry. In this illustrated lecture, Bernard Welt, Professor of Arts and Humanities at the Corcoran College of Art + Design, reviews the rapid development of the movies as new technology and artistic medium.

Wanted: Corcoran interns

The Corcoran Fall Internship Program offers an opportunity for Corcoran students to experience the museum world part-time as they complete their undergraduate or graduate degree.  Internships in departments throughout the Museum and College are available during the academic year. Weekly programming is a unique aspect of the internship experience. Application requirements include an application form, cover letter, resume, two letters of recommendation, and an official transcript, which should all be submitted by July 30, 2010.
