National Portfolio Days help further the artistic development of young artists by bringing together experienced college representatives to review artwork and offer critique.

In addition to being available to the public during office hours, the Admissions staff and faculty members travel extensively to discuss the programs offered at the Corcoran College of Art + Design. The Corcoran College of Art + Design participates in many National Portfolio Days sponsored by the National Portfolio Day Association (www.npda.org). Up to fifty different art colleges are represented at these portfolio review and information days. High school and college students, their families and art teachers are encouraged to attend these National Portfolio Days.

National Portfolio Days are also about the exchange of information: information about your work, yourself and your college plans. They are not an examination or competition. Your portfolio should include the best work that you have; but it may also include work in progress, sketchbooks and tear sheets. For specific art school portfolio requirements, contact the particular college directly. For Corcoran College of Art and Design portfolio requirements click here.

On Saturday, December 4, 2004, the Corcoran College of Art + Design will host National Portfolio Day from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. More than 50 prestigious nationally accredited art institutions of higher education will be represented, and more than 700 students are expected to attend from the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The College is located at 17th St. and New York Avenue in Northwest Washington, DC. Visitors to National Portfolio Day should use the New York Avenue/College entrance. There is no charge for the event. Registration will take place before proceeding to the event. High school art students, graduates, transfer students, teachers and parents are encouraged to attend this event. Students will have the opportunity to meet with admissions representatives, have their portfolios reviewed and pick up college information from institutions located across the country and in Canada.

An intimate art community of 350 full-time degree students and 80 faculty members, the Corcoran boasts an exceptional student faculty ratio and a long tradition of quality and impact on the development of young artists. Founded in 1890, the Corcoran College of Art + Design offers Bachelor and Associate of Fine Arts degrees. Areas of study include: Ceramics, Digital Media, Digital Media Design, Drawing, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Painting, Fine Art Photography, Photojournalism, Printmaking and Sculpture.
