Kathryn Spence

Kathryn Spence collects and unites unlikely materials, such as trash and mud, into composite sculptural forms. Emphasizing the disconnect between her subject and the viewer’s psychological associations with the materials, Spence’s sculptures project a palpable tension inherent in her transformational process. Her work has been included in the public collections of The Oakland Museum of California, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the San Jose Museum of Art. A participant in the 2005 48th Corcoran Biennial: Closer to Home, on view through June 27, 2005, Spence lives and works in San Francisco.
