Caroline Couig

Caroline E. Couig spent more than a decade as picture editor at newspapers nationwide including the Detroit Free Press and the San Jose Mercury News. Supervising, nurturing and collaborating with some of the country’s best photographers; she helped cover nearly every major news event from 1996 to 2006, including the 2001 terrorist attacks, wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the death of Pope John Paul II, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. From September 2009 to March 2011 she worked on different projects with National Geographic Society including photo editing for NationalGeographic.com and the National Geographic Traveler 50 Places of a Lifetime special edition for the iPad. Caroline led the visual content for the expanded Freshwater, Ocean and Environment portals of NG.com. Previously, Couig was lead photo editor for DiscoveryChannel.com where she collaborated with producers and designers to generate and curate content for a diverse spectrum of sites. Her photo editing has garnered numerous accolades from Pictures of the Year International, the Overseas Press Club, the Society of News Design, the NPPA’s Best of Photography contest, and the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards. She was a key player of the team that was a 2004 Pulitzer finalist in Feature Photography for images chronicling Arnold Schwarzenegger’s historic gubernatorial victory. Couig has participated in the Eddie Adams Workshop and will return in 2011. She is the principal at C2 Digital Media, a photo editing and media consulting company whose clients include Travel Channel Interactive and independent photographers.
