Carolyn Hartmann grew up in Michigan and developed her love of art while attending Kingswood School Cranbrook -- the high school affiliated with Cranbrook Academy of Art. She went on to get her law degree and practiced environmental law working for non-profits for about a dozen years in Washington, D.C. Too many years of banging her head against the wall in our nation's capitol, Carolyn decided enough was enough and started taking classes at the Corcoran School of Art and Design. Within a year of working in the print department, Carolyn was asked by the head of the screen printing department, if she would like to work as his teaching assistant. Several years later, she started teaching her own classes. Carolyn is an adjunct professor teaching at the Corcoran College of Art and Design. She also runs her own screenprinting studio, Open Studio dc, in the H Street Corridor of Washington, D.C.
