Pablo Ortiz Monasterio
Pablo is an internationally recognized and award winning photographer, curator and editor based in Mexico City. He has published numerous books as well as several monographs: Los Pueblos del Viento, 1982, Corazón de Venado, 1992, La Ultima Ciudad, 1996, Sexo y Progreso, Dolor y Belleza, 2000, and Montaña Blanca, 2010. His most recent book Mexican Portraits was released by Aperture and Televisa in May 2013. He has had numerous solo exhibits including at the at the Centro de la Imagen and the Palacio de Bellas Artes de Mexico City, as well as museums and galleries in Brasil, Argentina, Venezuela, Ecuador, Cuba, Spain, England, France, Holland, Portugal and Italy. Pablo edited several accalimed photobook series: México Indígena (seven titles), Río de Luz en el Fondo de Cultura Económica (20 titles) y Luna Córnea en el Centro de la Imagen (15 titles). He was invited to curate at the 2001 PhotoEspaña in Madrid. He has led workshops in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Ecuador, Spain, Mexico and the United States. In 2011 Pablo joined the Corcoran as a visiting artist through a program with the Mexican Cultural Institute. He teaches with Corcoran faculty in our Study Away program in Mexico City and San Miguel de Allende.
