William Newman

William Newman is an artist living in Washington, D.C. He is best known for his large-scale public murals. Mr. Newman is, above all, a painter. However, he is also an art professor, a creator of controversial public murals, a computer artist, a printmaker, and a sculptor. Mr. Newman has exhibited widely in local, national, and international group exhibitions and solo shows. Publications about the artist and illustrations of his work have appeared in major publications such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, USA Today, The Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Time, and Newsweek; as well as national television networks including NBC, CBS, and ABC; and other networks such as National Geographic and Tech TV. Mr. Newman graduated from Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA and received his MFA from University of Maryland. He has been a professor at the Corcoran College of Art + Design since 1972.
