Interlibrary Loan (ILL) helps you obtain research materials that are not available from the Corcoran Library.
Who can use ILL?
Graduate students, faculty, and staff are eligible to request items through the Interlibrary Loan service. Undergraduate students have limited access to this service on a case-by-case basis.
What materials can I request through ILL?
Many scholarly books and journal articles not owned by the Corcoran Library are available through ILL. Please keep in mind that not all requests can be filled. Many libraries will not lend theses or dissertations, and most will not lend media; high-demand items; and rare items, such as manuscripts and materials held in Special Collections.
Requests for textbooks and/or required readings from syllabi will not be approved.
How long does ILL take?
ILL materials can come from anywhere, from the University of Alaska to Yale University. Therefore, you should plan well ahead in your research if you want to use ILL. We recommend ordering material at least two weeks in advance.
How many requests can I make?
Please limit your requests to five per day.

How long can I keep an item?
All students must use ILL material in the Library. ILL material is held for students at the information desk until its due date. Faculty and staff can remove ILL items from the Library, barring any restrictions set by the lending library. Restrictions may include "in-library use only" or "no photocopying". Due dates are set by the lending library, not by the Corcoran Library. Most loans can be borrowed for four weeks, and sometimes the lending library will allow one renewal. You are responsible for the safe return of any ILL item that you borrow by its due date. Loans may be recalled by the lending library at any time. Please use the item completely by its due date, and return the item on time. If you anticipate needing a title longer than the loan period, please contact the Corcoran Library to discuss your options.
What Fees or Fines Might I Have to Pay?
You will be responsible for any overdue fines or late fees charged by the lending library. In the event that an item is lost or damaged, you are responsible for replacement and/or repair costs, including any associated processing fees and surcharges assessed by the lending library. Should you lose or damage an ILL item, contact the Corcoran Library immediately.
How do I submit a request?
Before placing a request, determine whether the Library owns the item or you can access the text electronically by checking the online catalog and the Library’s full-text online article databases [link to Articles]. Ask a Library staff member if you need assistance searching for material.
