CCA+D and AMA Partnership

The Corcoran College of Art and Design is pleased to be a collaborative partner in the American Association of Museums’ Museums and Community Collaborations Abroad (MCCA) initiative with the OAS Art Museum of the Americas (AMA), the Latin American Youth Center (LAYC) and the Museum of Art of El Salvador (MARTE) during the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.
Corcoran BFA Photography and Photojournalism students as well as graduate students in the Masters in New Media Photojournalism and Masters in Arts in Teaching programs will be participating as student teachers and photography mentors to youth of Salvadoran or Latino descent during the 2011-12 academic year.
Muriel Hasbun, Chair of Photography at the Corcoran, has been designated by the AMA as the lead artist and curriculum advisor for the project in Washington, DC. Under Muriel Hasbun’s guidance and the collaboration with the AMA, students will teach photography, audio and video to youth at the LAYC in DC and engage them in a participatory process of exploration and exchange with students in El Salvador. This will culminate in an exhibition at the AMA and at MARTE in May/June 2012, with an in progress exhibition at the Corcoran College of Art + Design during FotoWeek DC, in November 2011.
