Designers are multi-discipline practitioners, comfortable designing hotels, restaurants, office buildings, hospitals, and retail stores, as well as in determining the interior design of private homes. Interior designers bring their own creative vision directly to bear on the lives and work of others, collaborating closely with commercial and residential clients who have a diverse range of needs. Working within established design offices or independently, the field of interior design offers a wide and challenging range of professional opportunities, allowing the designer to transform living and working environments.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design at the Corcoran College of Art + Design is a new program designed for the full-time student who wishes to achieve expertise in this broad-based and fulfilling profession, channeling their creative talents to this important component of the built environment. The program addresses both commercial and residential design while ensuring students have an equally strong background in the humanities, including the essentials of the history of art and design.

Starting freshman year, all students study the fundamentals of design and history. Beginning in the sophomore year, Interior Design BFA students specialize with a suite of courses designed to improve skills in computer drafting, digital graphics, graphic composition, materials and methods of construction, and history of design, decorative arts, and architecture. Studies culminate with a senior project designed and presented during the final year of study.
